Prince of Wales School Receives New ICT Equipment for Digital Learning
Sia Lucy Kannah The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), in partnership with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), has handed over ICT equipment to Prince of Wales School as part of a project funded by the Government of Japan.
The equipment, including laptops, projectors and screens, has been provided to support the school’s ICT laboratory and expand students’ access to digital learning opportunities.
Speaking on behalf of UNOPS, Programmes Manager Madam Okafor said the project targets both in-school and out-of-school youth. She said the initiative is designed to strengthen young people’s digital skills and knowledge of entrepreneurship while providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to use technology and entrepreneurship to improve their livelihoods.
Chief Education Officer at the MBSSE, Edward Kpaka, said the computers are intended to help pupils develop digital skills that will benefit them beyond their time in school.
Kpaka encouraged the pupils to take full advantage of the opportunity and make good use of the equipment to strengthen their digital competencies.
Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Saiku Bah, also encouraged the pupils to think creatively and make productive use of the laptops, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to supporting young people.
Minister Sackey, in his statement, highlighted the broader vision behind the provision of ICT equipment and expanded digital learning opportunities.
He said the success of the initiative will require the commitment of school leaders, teachers and students, alongside continued support from development partners.
Minister Sackey also emphasised that technology must be accompanied by purpose and responsible use. He urged stakeholders to look beyond the provision of equipment and focus on the opportunities that digital education can create for young people.
