Dr Ibrahim Bangura Set to Visit Kono as APC Flagbearer Race Intensifies

All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer aspirant Dr Ibrahim Bangura is expected in Koidu City on Monday, October 5, 2026, as political activity within the opposition party intensifies ahead of its flagbearer selection process.

Preparations are reportedly underway in Kono District for Dr Bangura’s visit, which is expected to bring together APC constituency and district executives, supporters and other party stakeholders.

The visit comes shortly after the party’s ongoing lower-level internal elections, in which supporters aligned with Dr Bangura have reported significant victories in several constituencies in Kono.

In August, members of the Dr Ibrahim Bangura (DIB) Movement claimed victory in seven of Kono District’s nine APC constituency elections. The movement also said prominent APC figures in the district, including Aiah Maxwell Konoekor and Diana Konomanyi, had expressed support for Dr Bangura’s flagbearer bid.

The reported results have strengthened the perception of growing support for Dr Bangura within APC structures in Kono, although the internal elections form part of a wider party process involving competing political camps.

Dr Bangura has maintained an active engagement with APC structures across the country. In September, he visited Kono and donated 20 motorbikes to APC constituency chairpersons in the district, along with rice and other relief items, according to reports from the event.

He had also previously contributed Le500 million towards the construction of the APC district office in Kono, according to AYV News.

Monday’s visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Dr Bangura to engage the newly elected party executives and supporters in the district following the internal elections.

The wider APC lower-level electoral process has been marked by delays and outstanding elections in some areas. The party previously rescheduled outstanding ward and constituency elections after petitions arising from the process were referred to the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC).

Dr Bangura, who is campaigning under the DIB Movement, has presented his political message around “Heal, Unite, Build” and has repeatedly called for unity and restraint among APC members during the internal competition.

The Kono visit comes as several aspirants continue to strengthen their networks within the APC ahead of the party’s eventual flagbearer selection for the 2028 presidential election.

With Kono emerging as an important area of support for competing aspirants, Dr Bangura’s engagement in the district is expected to attract considerable attention from party members and political observers.
