Chief Justice Kamanda Says Supreme Court Will Deliver Judgments on All Matters Before It
Chief Justice Komba Kamanda has assured that the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone will deliver judgments on all matters currently before it, as the Court commenced hearing a major constitutional reference concerning the procedure for amending non-entrenched provisions of the 1991 Constitution.
Chief Justice Kamanda gave the assurance during proceedings on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, amid heightened public and legal interest in the constitutional matter.
“The Supreme Court will deliver judgments on all matters,” Chief Justice Kamanda said.
The case before the Court centres on the interpretation and application of Sections 91 and 108 of the 1991 Constitution, particularly the procedure Parliament must follow when amending non-entrenched constitutional provisions.
The proceedings are also expected to examine the legislative procedure followed in relation to the 2025 Constitutional Amendment.
The constitutional reference has attracted considerable attention within the legal community and among members of the public because of the questions it raises about Parliament’s constitutional amendment powers and the requirements governing changes to the country’s supreme law.
Chief Justice Kamanda reaffirmed the Supreme Court’s commitment to determining the matters brought before it and delivering its judgments.
The Court’s eventual decision is expected to provide judicial interpretation of the constitutional provisions at the centre of the dispute.
