UPDATE: JFK Returned to Pademba Road Prison After Brief Court Appearance

Plaintiff lawyer Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, popularly known as JFK, has been returned to Pademba Road Correctional Centre after a brief appearance before the Supreme Court, where his expected apology and bail application did not proceed.

The development corrects an earlier report published by this medium stating that Kamara had been granted bail. That report was based on information circulated by ECKO Media, which initially announced that Kamara’s bail application had been granted.

Kamara was brought back to court apparently to provide another opportunity for him to offer a proper apology over utterances he made during Wednesday’s proceedings, which had earlier been deemed inadequate by the Court.

He was subsequently held in contempt of court and remanded at Pademba Road Correctional Centre until Tuesday, October 13, when the Supreme Court is expected to resume hearing constitutional amendment matters.

Sources had indicated that Kamara’s return to court was intended to provide an opportunity for him to apologise and for his lawyers to make a bail application. However, the anticipated hearing did not take place, and he was taken back to the correctional centre.

Kamara was initially detained after the Chief Justice, Justice Komba Kamanda, found his earlier apology inadequate and required him to specifically withdraw remarks made during the previous day’s proceedings.

His detention was originally expected to continue until Tuesday, although there had been expectations that the position could be reconsidered through a fresh apology and possible bail application.

Kamara is representing Osman Abdal Timbo, one of the plaintiffs in the ongoing constitutional amendment proceedings concerning the Constitutional Amendment Bill, which was treated as passed in August.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to resume the proceedings on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Editorial note: We regret the earlier publication of the incorrect information regarding the outcome of Kamara’s bail application. The correction is being issued to ensure that readers have the accurate position.
