The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, in partnership with Plan International Sierra Leone, is providing girls with an opportunity to experience leadership firsthand by taking over the Ministry’s workspace as part of activities marking International Day of the Girl Child 2026.

The initiative, held as the celebration continues on 13 October 2026, is aimed at amplifying girls’ voices, promoting their leadership potential and encouraging their active participation in decision-making.

Through the initiative, girls are given the opportunity to experience leadership in a professional environment, helping to build their confidence and inspire them to become agents of positive change in their communities and the country.

The Ministry said the initiative reflects its commitment to empowering girls to realise their full potential and creating opportunities for them to develop the skills and confidence needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The partnership with Plan International Sierra Leone also highlights the importance of creating spaces where girls can exercise leadership, express their views and participate in shaping their future.

The initiative underscores the message that investing in girls’ leadership today is essential to building a more inclusive future in which girls can lead, influence decisions and contribute to national progress.
