Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has led a high-level government delegation on an inspection of ongoing multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects at the Goderich campus of Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU).

The projects, being implemented under the government’s Education Sector Support Project, aim to improve the quality of technical and higher education in Sierra Leone through expanded academic facilities and improved infrastructure.

During the visit, the delegation assessed progress on several facilities designed to improve teaching, learning and working conditions at the university.

The ongoing expansion includes a new faculty building with 18 lecture rooms, an amphitheatre and a multipurpose auditorium. Other facilities include newly constructed student hostels, staff accommodation and a central administrative building intended to improve the university’s operations and governance.

Government officials highlighted the importance of the projects in advancing President Julius Maada Bio’s human capital development agenda. The facilities are expected to strengthen research capacity, ease classroom overcrowding and create a more conducive environment for academic activities.

While acknowledging the progress made so far, the delegation emphasised the need for continued monitoring to ensure that the remaining work is completed and the facilities are fully handed over and operational.

Minister Wurie said the government recognised the progress achieved while acknowledging that more work remained to be done. He stressed that the ultimate objective was to ensure that the infrastructure investments translated into tangible improvements in the quality of technical and higher education.

The projects at MMTU form part of the government’s broader efforts to modernise tertiary education institutions and equip Sierra Leonean students with practical skills to meet the country’s development needs.
