Mayor Aki-Sawyerr Launches ConnectEd Foundational Learning Initiative in Freetown
Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has officially launched the ConnectEd Foundational Learning Hive initiative at Kroo Bay Municipal Primary School, as part of efforts to improve foundational education and learning outcomes among primary school pupils.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with Kulea Hive, the Freetown City Council and D-Prize, seeks to improve early education through the use of technology and community involvement.
Speaking at the launch, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasised that providing children with access to classrooms is only the first step towards achieving quality education, noting the importance of ensuring that pupils receive the necessary support to learn and succeed.
The initiative focuses on two main areas: providing supplementary learning support to primary school pupils and equipping local teachers with tools to strengthen classroom instruction.
It also places particular emphasis on foundational literacy and numeracy, which are considered essential building blocks for children’s long-term educational development.
The launch at Kroo Bay Municipal Primary School forms part of the city council’s efforts to expand learning opportunities in communities through partnerships with educational organisations and other stakeholders.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed optimism about the initiative’s potential impact, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration among partners, educators and communities in providing children with a stronger foundation for the future.
