APC Deputy Parliamentary Spokesman Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray has called on the government to respond more effectively to concerns raised by opposition lawmakers, citing the withholding of 47,454 candidates’ results in the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as an issue requiring serious attention.

Mansaray made the call during a recent media interview held on Monday, November 2, 2026, while discussing the opposition’s role in holding the government accountable.

He said opposition lawmakers use parliamentary debates and committee engagements to scrutinise government decisions, identify policy gaps and raise issues affecting the country. However, he questioned whether the concerns brought before Parliament were receiving adequate attention and resulting in meaningful government action.

The APC lawmaker maintained that the opposition’s responsibility extends beyond participating in parliamentary proceedings, stressing that lawmakers must continue to challenge government decisions and demand accountability on matters of national importance.

His remarks come amid public concern over the withholding of 47,454 candidates’ results in the 2026 WASSCE over suspected examination irregularities. According to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, the affected candidates comprise 26,735 females and 20,719 males.

The withholding of the results relates to suspected examination malpractice and does not mean that all 47,454 candidates have been found guilty of examination offences.

Mansaray’s comments have renewed attention on the role of Parliament in scrutinising the government’s handling of issues affecting citizens, particularly the future of students whose examination results remain withheld.

He said the opposition would continue to use its constitutional and parliamentary responsibilities to question government decisions and demand appropriate responses, rather than remain silent on issues of national concern.
