Sierra Leone Police Takes Fresh Decision on APC’s Convention
Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has informed the main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC) to put on hold the their National Delegates Conference slated to be hosted in Makeni on 17 to 19 February 2023.
SLP made this announcement on a press statement issued on Thursday, 16th February, 2023, and sighed by the Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police, IGP William Fayia Sellu.
It could be recalled that, the Sierra Leone Police yesterday granted the APC party request to hold their delegates conference in the aforementioned dates.
The Sierra Leone Police admitted being notified by the party’s national Secretary-General, and the Head of the Secretariat of the Interim Transitional Governance Committee (ITGC) — Alhaji Mohamed, nick-named “Koroma” about the planned delegate convention.
APC’s request to stage its ‘national delegate convention’ in order to elect the party’s national officers for the June 24 presidential and parliamentary elections to elect their leaders who will represent them in the National Delegate Conference, and in extension to forthcoming national elections.
The police boss stated that the decision to stop the APC party’s delegate conference as scheduled is as a result of the ‘ruling or judgement’ made by the High Court of Sierra Leone dated, Thursday, 16th February 2023.
The police further informed the APC party to obey the orders from High Court. IG expressed that his office has officially sent a letter, dated 16th February 2023, to the APC party revoking the police clearance that was issued on 10th February 2023.
The police chief, has, however, expressed their utmost security whenever the Court changes its ruling.
