President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has assumed the chairmanship of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, a move that has been met with “great national pride and heartfelt congratulations” according to a statement from the Government of Sierra Leone.

President Bio’s ascension to this prestigious leadership position is seen as a renewed commitment to unity, peace, security, and sustainable development across the West African region.

The statement lauded his “visionary leadership, dedication to democratic values, and relentless pursuit of social and economic progress,” asserting that President Bio is “uniquely positioned to guide ECOWAS during these critical times.”

Under his stewardship, President Bio will focus on four strategic priorities: Restoring Constitutional Order and Deepening Democracy; Revitalizing Regional Security Cooperation; Unlocking Economic Integration; and Building Institutional Credibility. The government highlighted President Bio’s leadership as an “inspiring beacon of hope and solidarity for all member states,” emphasizing his dedication to fostering cooperation and shared determination for a prosperous and peaceful West Africa.
