A Burkinabé woman has taken to social media to respond to comments made by Sierra Leone’s Information Minister Chernor Bah, who recently spoke about Burkina Faso’s current government.

Bah had described Burkina Faso’s system as a “package” that includes military rule and the shutting down of opposition, saying Sierra Leone does not want to follow that path. In response, the woman questioned why Sierra Leone would not want to be like Burkina Faso or have someone like President Ibrahim Traoré leading them.

She admitted that Traoré is a dictator, but said he is the kind of leader people in Burkina Faso want. “We love it like that,” she said. “He is a dictator who builds schools for us, gives us industries, good roads, pays university students, brings back culture and tradition, and unites the country.”

She also mentioned the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Maada Bio. “All of Africa is fighting for Fatima,” she said. “Burkina is fighting for her. And he (Chernor) is busy talking about us.”

Captain Ibrahim Traoré has been president of Burkina Faso since 2022 after taking power in a military coup. At 37 years old, he is currently one of the youngest leaders in the world.
