According to a news brief from the Sierra Leone Embassy in Saudi Arabia, 10 Sierra Leoneans have been evacuated from the conflict in Sudan and are expected to arrive in Freetown on Friday, May 5th, 2023, aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

In a separate announcement, the Sierra Leone Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, has successfully evacuated Sierra Leonean nationals from war-torn Sudan.

On April 24th, 2023, the embassy issued a press release highlighting the situation of Sierra Leoneans, including many students, who were fleeing the conflict in Sudan. Due to the intense fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, they were forced to leave the country.

The embassy established constant communication with the Sierra Leoneans, providing them with emergency support, including evacuation from Port Sudan to Wadi Halfa, another city in Sudan near the Egyptian border.

A delegation from the embassy received them in Wadi Halfa and transported them to Cairo for immediate repatriation to Sierra Leone, as stated in a press release dated April 27th, 2023.
