A court in Adenta, Ghana has sentenced one Lamin Sesay aged 24, to 25 years imprisonment after being accused him of causing harm and attempted robbery.

The court sentenced the young Sierra Leonean to five years imprisonment for causing harm and 25 years for robbery; the court said that both sentences will run concurrently.

In the judgment, the court said that an attempt to committing a crime is like committing it.

Sesay, speaking in court, pleaded for mercy.

“I pray the court to forgive me. I have no relations in Ghana,” he pleaded.

The prosecutor, Inspector Gloria Ayim, however, asked the court to give a long sentence in order to serve as deterrent.

According to the complainant, Christabel Sittor  said the Sesay attacked her while returning home at night and forcefully took her bag and in the process suffered from a scissors cut on her left hand.

After the tussle, Sesay fled to a nearby bush but was nab by a local who took him to the police.

Police said the young man acceded to the offence and even took them to the crime scene.

There has been no comment from the Sierra Leone High Commission in Accra, Ghana.
