According to the Awareness Times Newspaper, group of Sierra Leoneans based and working in the United States of America (USA) recently stormed the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Washington DC to stage a simultaneous counter protest against another group of Sierra Leoneans who took out a Police Permit to march in Washington DC against President Bio and Francis Ben Kaifala of the Anti Corruption Commission.

The protests are over the issue of Mayor.

Freetown. One group is calling on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to institute a prosecution of the Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyer for corruption. The other group says she is being harassed because she is a Woman. The pro-ACC group agitated for the ACC to prosecute the Freetown City Council Yvonne Aki Sawyer, adding that she is not a sacred cow because she is a woman. “No one is above the law. Sierra Leone is a democratic country, and President Bio is highly respected at international level for human capital development, women’s right and gender parity, rural electrification, improvement in the mining sector, and the fight against corruption”

The angry pro-ACC protesters called that “Unfortunately, Aki Sawyer is using her ill-gotten wealth to hire women in the United States to demonstrate on her behalf. She failed in her agenda of giving a bad name to the government of President Bio. Surely, corruption is fighting back,” the pro-ACC protesters say adding that “President Bio has the full support of the people of Sierra Leone diaspora in United States”.

The Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr was recently in America during which she blasted President Bio as running a regime that was on track to become worse than the dreadful RUF REBELS of Foday Sankoh back in the nineties.

Her supporters and supporters of President Bio are now protesting on the streets of Washington DC. However the number of Sierra Leone citizens who turned up in support of the Anti Corruption Commission were more than the ones who turned up in support of the Mayor.
