The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, has extended a message of encouragement to thousands of pupils across Sierra Leone as they begin the Basic Education Certificate Examination on Monday, 20th July 2026.
In his statement, the Minister acknowledged the determination and effort of candidates, noting that pupils entering examination halls carry not only writing materials but also the hopes of their families, the sacrifices of their parents, and the future of the nation.
Addressing the candidates directly, Sackey emphasised that they have already completed the most challenging phase through months of preparation, including early morning studies, late-night revisions, and consistent engagement with their teachers. He urged them to approach the examination with confidence and composure.
He further encouraged pupils to manage anxiety, advising them to remain calm, read each question carefully, and trust in their preparation.
The Minister also recognised the critical role played by parents and guardians, commending their sacrifices, prayers, and support throughout their children’s academic journey. He urged them to continue encouraging each other during the examination period.
In addition, Sackey paid tribute to teachers across the country, describing their contributions as the foundation of every success story that will emerge from the examinations. He highlighted their dedication, extra hours of teaching, and commitment to ensuring no pupil is left behind.
The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education reaffirmed its support for all candidates, parents, and teachers as the BECE commences nationwide.
