The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Njala University Students’ Union Government has publicly distanced itself from an entertainment event advertised on social media under the title “Njala Festival Into the Badlands Vol. 2,” saying the programme was neither approved nor endorsed by the union or the university’s Ministry of Social Welfare.

In a press release dated May 8, 2026, and issued by the Ministry of Social Welfare of the SUG at Njala University’s Bo Campus, the union said its attention had been drawn to a flyer promoting the event, which was reportedly scheduled to take place at Bo Plaza on the same date.

According to the statement, the organisers allegedly used the name and badge of the Students’ Union Government and that of the university without authorization. The union clarified that it was not consulted, involved, or informed about the planning or promotion of the programme.

The SUG wishes to clearly inform all students and the general public that this event was neither approved nor endorsed by the Student Union Government or the Ministry of Social Welfare,” the statement noted.

The union further stated that the use of its name on the promotional flyer was unauthorized and warned students against taking part in the event. It added that the SUG would not be held responsible for any incident, loss, or damage that may arise from participation.

Consequently, all students are strongly advised not to participate in the said event,” the release stated.

The Students’ Union Government also reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare and safety, stressing that it would only support activities that follow due process and meet acceptable standards for student engagement.

Copies of the release were also addressed to the Sierra Leone Police, the Office of National Security, the administration of Njala University, and the President of the Students’ Union Government at the university’s Bo Campus.
