St. Edward’s Secondary School Crowned Champions of Inaugural Robotics for Good Youth Challenge
Deborah Sorie St. Edward’s Secondary School has secured the national title at Sierra Leone’s first-ever Robotics for Good Youth Challenge, earning the prestigious opportunity to represent the nation on the global stage in Geneva, Switzerland.
The grand finale, held at the Bintumani Conference Center, brought together the country’s top-performing student innovators. St. Edward’s emerged victorious following a closely fought final round against Government Secondary School, widely known as Bo School.
The national competition marked the culmination of a countrywide initiative designed to foster youth development in technology. Prior to the finale, students from various regions participated in rigorous training sessions and regional contests to build practical skills in robotics and complex problem-solving.
The groundbreaking event was spearheaded by the Kamara Yokie Innovation Center, operating in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and AI for Good.
Alongside the honor of representing Sierra Leone internationally, the top teams received significant financial awards to further their educational pursuits:
National Champions (St. Edward’s Secondary School): Awarded NLe 40,000 and official qualification for the global Robotics for Good competition in Geneva.
First Runner-Up (Bo School): Awarded NLe 20,000.
Participating Schools: Received various consolation prizes, gifts, and ongoing professional mentorship.
Organizers praised the dedication of all the participating schools, noting that the high level of talent displayed made the inaugural competition a resounding success for the future of STEM in Sierra Leone.
