The leadership of the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH) has received international recognition after the institution’s Chancellor, Professor Paul Kamara, and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Paula Abie Kamara, were officially presented with the prestigious West Africa Heroes Award by Heroes Media Group.

The award presentation ceremony took place on Wednesday, 19th May 2026, at the university’s campus in Freetown. The event brought together senior university officials, lecturers, staff members, and representatives of Heroes Media Group to celebrate the institution’s remarkable achievements and continued growth.

Presenting the award on behalf of Heroes Media Group, Executive Director Moses Kelvin Patrick Fembeh commended the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor for what he described as their transformational leadership and immense contributions to higher education and national development in Sierra Leone.

According to the citation presented during the ceremony, the award recognised UNIMTECH’s exceptional transformation from a small computer training institution into one of Sierra Leone’s leading universities and a respected centre for academic excellence, innovation, and professional development across the sub-region.

The citation further highlighted that UNIMTECH is currently ranked second in Sierra Leone on the internationally recognised AD Scientific Index 2026, a milestone described as evidence of the university’s growing academic influence and commitment to quality education.

Heroes Media Group praised Professor Paul Kamara and Dr. Paula Abie Kamara for their unwavering dedication to expanding access to higher education opportunities for thousands of young Sierra Leoneans. The organisation noted that their leadership continues to empower students, strengthen national human resource capacity, and contribute meaningfully to the country’s socio-economic transformation.

The media organisation also acknowledged the university leadership’s efforts in strengthening academic partnerships and enhancing UNIMTECH’s regional and international visibility within the global academic community.

The framed award presentation carried a special message of appreciation, recognising the founders’ visionary leadership, institution-building efforts, commitment to public service, and consistent support for initiatives promoting excellence and positive societal impact.

Speaking after the presentation, lecturers and staff members expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed on the university’s leadership, describing the recognition as a major inspiration for continued hard work, academic excellence, and institutional development.
