The daughter of Hawa Hunt, Alicia Hunt has criticised Osman Bendu popularly known as Mammy Thomas for not donating to her release.

Alicia, who started a GoFundMe page for her mum Hawa in January this year, called out Bendu for his lack of financial support towards the funding of her mum’s legal fees.

“The thing that makes me sad about Mammy Thomas (Bendu) is that he and my mum were genuinely close at some point,” Alicia said.

She added that Bendu used to refer to her mum as “Sugar Momma” —insinuating that Bendu was in a relationship with her mum.

The daughter said that Bendu’s relationship with her mum has not seen him making any financial contribution towards funding legal fees for her release.

“He hasn’t donated anything when my mum is genuinely in need of help,” she lashed out.

Hawa Hunt was arrested on live TV late last year for a video she made criticising the President, Julius Maada Bio and his wife Fatima Bio in 2023.

The reality TV star was taken into custody following the legal cyber regulations set forth by Sierra Leone in 2021.

Hawa Hunt has sinec expressed remorse for her actions and has taken steps to apologize. However, she has faced challenges in securing bail, having been denied three times for a non-violent offence.
Amnesty International has shown keen interest on Hunt’s arrest with their senior representative in Sierra Leone, Solomon Sogbandi calling for her release and terming her arrest as an “arbitrary” one.

In a recent statement, Fatima Bio, the First Lady of Sierra Leone, called for the release of Hunt, emphasising that she should be with her children instead of incarcerated.
