Mariyam Lorba Konneh, Sierra Leone’s representative at the 73rd Miss World Pageant, has departed the country for Vietnam, where she will represent Sierra Leone on the global stage.
Konneh left Sierra Leone on Sunday, August 9, 2026, carrying the hopes and support of Sierra Leoneans as she prepares to compete among contestants from around the world at the prestigious international pageant.
A former AYV Miss University Sierra Leone 2022, Konneh is an entrepreneur and final-year Banking and Finance student at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM).
She has also distinguished herself through initiatives supporting women and young people, including business opportunities, skills development and menstrual hygiene advocacy.
Her participation in the Miss World Pageant goes beyond the pursuit of the crown, as she is expected to use the international platform to promote Sierra Leone’s culture, talent and potential while inspiring young people across the country.
Ahead of her departure, Sierra Leoneans from home and abroad gathered at a special send-off ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown to celebrate and encourage the national representative.
The ceremony was hosted by the Miss Sierra Leone Ltd Board in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the National Tourist Board.
The event provided an opportunity for supporters, stakeholders and members of the public to offer prayers, well wishes and words of encouragement as Konneh embarked on her journey to Vietnam.
As she takes part in the 73rd Miss World Pageant, Konneh will carry Sierra Leone’s national identity, cultural heritage and aspirations to an international audience, with hopes of making a strong impression on the global stage.
