The Minister of Health, Dr Austin Demby, has launched Starlink internet connectivity for 300 government health facilities across Sierra Leone.
The launch was held at the Julius Maada Bio Paediatric Centre of Excellence in Lumley, Freetown. The initiative is aimed at improving internet access and supporting digital healthcare services in the country.
The new internet connection will help health workers communicate better, share medical information faster, and access important health resources online. It will also allow healthcare professionals to work together remotely and improve the delivery of health services.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Demby said the initiative is part of the Ministry’s plan to move from paper-based patient records to a digital health system.
He explained that the improved internet access will support electronic health reporting, disease monitoring, online training, and emergency response across the health sector.
Dr. Demby added that the technology will help health workers make faster decisions, improve patient care, and strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
The project is expected to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare services for people across Sierra Leone.
