Covid 19- spokesperson  Solomon Jamiru has stated that the government of  Sierra Leone  is embarking on a  five-day nationwide house-to-house #Covid19 vaccination drive today, according to the health ministry.  This move by the government is as a result of the Omicron variant recently detected in the country.

Sierra Leone recently confirmed its first case of the Omicron Variant of the Covid 19.  A statement from the Health Ministry confirmed a passenger from Nigeria had Tested Posivite for the  Corona virus on 25 November  and the sequencing  was done later  and returned  the B.1.1.1.529 Variant .

The population eligible for the jab have now received at least one shot. That amounts to 10% of the country’s total population, he says.

In a bid to strengthen the fight against Covid 19, The Ministry of Health and Sanitation recently received boost from the World Health Organisation  to support  the fight against COVID-19 response & surveillance of priority diseases with $600,000 worth of laboratory commodities & consumables to help scale up testing in communities & public health facilities at national and sub-national levels
