A six-year-old boy from Sussex Village in Freetown has reportedly been amputated after sustaining severe injuries from his grandfather, an incident which occurred in February 2026.
The report indicated that the boy misplaced a charging receipt that was meant to collect his grandfather’s phone from a charging station. Reports indicated that the boy misplaced the said receipt. Upon his return, the grandfather is said to have tied and brutally beat him, causing arm injuries so severe that amputation may be required at the time.
The boy was reportedly admitted to the Connaught Hospital to receive emergency medical care. The current report stated that the boy’s arms have been amputated.
The grandfather is said to be in custody, though no official report has been published by the Sierra Leone Police.
Meanwhile, there is outrage from some community members at Sussex and the wider region after news of the boy’s amputation was made public.
