The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has emphasized the crucial role of lawyers in upholding democratic governance, urging them to exhibit courage, commitment, and consistency in their service to the people.

Speaking as a Distinguished Guest at the first Annual General Meeting (AGM) of The Lawyer’s Society, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr highlighted the legal profession’s responsibility in defending democracy, justice, and the nation’s motto—Unity, Freedom, and Justice.

Addressing the gathering, she encouraged the legal fraternity to stand firm in protecting the rule of law and ensuring the rights of citizens are safeguarded.

She further expressed confidence in their ability to serve as defenders of democracy and wished them success in their professional endeavors.

The AGM marked a significant milestone for The Lawyer’s Society, bringing together legal professionals to discuss their role in shaping Sierra Leone’s democratic landscape.
