One of Sierra Leone’s oldest and prominent public schools, The Albert Academy has today, Sunday 9 October 2022 celebrated its 118 years Thanksgiving services in the streets of Freetown.

The Thanksgiving service was graced by current and past pupils of the school dressed in black coats and white shorts, and members of the brass band dressed in a flashy red and white attire.

Founded in 1904, by the United Brethren Church (UBC), with the motto Esse Quam Vederi “To be rather than to seem,” Albert Academy has hosted and produced many great Sierra Leonean personalities in all walk of life.

Among its alumni are Sierra Leone’s first Prime Minister, Sir Milton Margai, and Sierra Leone’s first president, Siaka Stevens.

The secondary school, which mainly caters for boys is located at Berry Street, central part of Freetown.
