Foday Fofanah, a senior cameraman for AYV Media Empire, was reportedly assaulted by armed police officers at Model Old Road Junction in Freetown, resulting into severe injury in his face.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the attack occurred in broad daylight of today, 21st May, 2025, leaving bystanders in disbelief.
According to reports, Fofanah was allegedly beaten by a group of police officers who claimed to be acting under direct orders from Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu.
The officers allegedly accused Fofanah of interfering with their duties, which led to the violent confrontation. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the police officers manhandling Fofanah in public view.
The AYV Media Empire is yet to react to the gruesome incident. The incident echoed previous concerns regarding police brutality and the treatment of journalists in Sierra Leone, where there have been multiple reports of violence against media personnel.
