The inaugural Chief Justice Komba Kamanda Trophy kicked off at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) field in Kingtom, as members of the legal profession traded their robes for football boots in a spirited opening match between the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) and the Judiciary of Sierra Leone.

The match began with a ceremonial kick-off performed by Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda, who was joined on the touchline by Justices of the Superior Court of Judicature and Madam Tuma Jabbie Gento-Kamara Esq., President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association. A large crowd of legal practitioners, family members, and supporters witnessed the evening fixture.

On the field, the SLBA opened the scoring with an early goal that set the tone for a competitive encounter. The Judiciary responded after the first half with an equaliser, keeping the contest finely balanced. However, minutes before the final whistle, the SLBA restored their lead with a second goal, and despite a late push from the Judiciary, the scoreline remained unchanged.

The match ended 2–1 in favour of the Sierra Leone Bar Association.

Organised by the leadership of the SLBA, the tournament is designed to foster camaraderie, ease professional tensions, and promote wellness among legal practitioners. The presence of the Chief Justice and senior judicial figures underscored the event’s message of collaboration and shared commitment to justice and national development beyond the courtroom.

The Chief Justice Komba Kamanda Trophy continues tomorrow with a scheduled fixture between Solicitors’ Clerks and the Legal Aid Board, as the competition brings together the wider legal community through sport and fellowship.
