President Julius Maada Bio and his wife First Lady Fatima Maada Bio arrived in Monrovia on Monday evening after receiving a gracious invitation from President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr., the leader of Liberia.
They were warmly greeted at the Roberts International Airport by Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Mrs. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, who represented President Boakai.
Their visit is in anticipation of the 68th Anniversary commemoration of the Armed Forces of Liberia, during which President Bio is set to be the Special Guest of Honor and deliver the Keynote Address on Armed Forces Day, scheduled for February 11, 2025, at the Barclay Training Center (BTC) in Monrovia.
Armed Forces Day is an important occasion for both the Liberian government and its citizens, honoring the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of the nation’s Armed Forces. This year’s theme, “Sustaining Our Peace and Security through Stakeholder Engagement: The Role of the Armed Forces,” carries particular significance.
Given President Bio’s extensive background as a retired Brigadier General and his crucial role in peace negotiations during Sierra Leone’s 11-year civil war, along with his prior roles as president of the United Nations Security Council and chair of the African Union’s Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government (C-10), his forthcoming insights are highly anticipated.
Following their arrival, President Boakai and First Lady Kartumu Y. Boakai hosted an official dinner in honor of President Bio and First Lady Fatima Jabbe Bio. The gathering included notable attendees such as Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture, and various other government officials.
This event served to further enhance the enduring bonds of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect between the Republic of Liberia and the Republic of Sierra Leone.
