Citizens Cry For Government’s Intervention as Blackout Takes Over Wellington Community
Residents of Wellington in eastern Freetown say they are experiencing prolonged electricity disruptions across several parts of the community, prompting renewed appeals for government and utility intervention.
Community members report that areas including Magnus and Maxwell have been affected by ongoing and recurring blackouts that they say have persisted for an extended period. The outages are disrupting household activities, small businesses, and daily routines in the densely populated neighbourhood.
A local stakeholder, Alie Samu, said residents have long faced electricity challenges and welcomed efforts to improve supply, including the installation of a transformer. However, he noted that stable electricity delivery has not yet been fully achieved, particularly during the dry season when disruptions are more frequent.
Sanu said the community remains hopeful that continued government attention will lead to a lasting solution to the power issues affecting the area.
Wellington, located in the Western Area Urban District, has experienced recurring electricity problems in recent years, according to residents.
Community members are now calling for sustained intervention from relevant authorities and utility providers, warning that ongoing outages continue to affect livelihoods, small businesses, and local safety.
