A young man identified as Eric McCarthy appeared at Magistrate Court in Freetown for allegedly assaulting a female military personnel while on duty.

The accused is before Magistrate Tucker on three count charges of wounding with intent, wounding, and assault, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the particulars of offence, on January 6, 2023, at Liverpool Street in Freetown, the accused assaulted and wounded one Isata Mansaray, a military personnel and caused bodily harm.

Police Officer, Hawa Bah, led the prosecution and brought in another e witness in court who gave a shocking revelation of what transpired between the accused and complainant.

According the witness, Fudia Sesay, who is the owner of the stall where the incident occurred, on the 6th January at around 10 she was seated close to her stall together with the complainant when the accused came to buy some candy and biscuit having a military cap on.

The witness said upon seeing that the complainant who is a military personnel interrogated the accused to ascertain whether he was a military officer, adding that the accused replied harshly saying- ‘don’t ask me.

She continued that the complainant then took the cap from the accused and placed it inside her bra, resulting to a fight between the two as the accused also placed his hand into the complainant’s bra and took out the cap.

The witness furthered that she called out for help and swiftly took the complainant inside her shop leaving the accused still standing outside.

She went on to state that the complainant later left to report the matter to the police but was grabbed by the hair and knocked three times on the eye by the accused during the process, adding that she was taken to the hospital while the accused was taken to the Central Police Station where they obtained statement from her.

The matter was adjourned to March 10, 2023 for further hearing.
