Daru Police Constable Resigns After 23 Years in Service, Cites Lack of Promotion

Police Constable Lucinda N. Dick, attached to Daru Police Station in the Eastern Region, has submitted her resignation from the Sierra Leone Police, citing a lack of promotion after more than two decades in service, workplace provocation and family pressures.

In a resignation letter dated October 8, 2026, and addressed to the Human Resources Department at Police Headquarters in Freetown, Dick requested that her resignation take effect from October 15, 2026, while seeking a 30-day notice period in accordance with police regulations.

Dick said she enlisted in the Sierra Leone Police on December 13, 2003, and had remained at the rank of constable despite serving for approximately 23 years. She identified the lack of promotion, provocation from colleagues and pressing family issues as reasons for her decision to leave the force.

Despite her concerns, Dick expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation, saying her time in the police had taught her discipline, professionalism and public service.

She also requested approval of her resignation and the processing of her entitlements and discharge documents. In the letter, she stated her readiness to hand over all police property in her possession.

Copies of the resignation letter were sent to the Assistant Inspector General of Police for the East, the Eastern Region OSD Coordinator, the Local Unit Commander of Daru Division, the Support Officer of Daru Division and the Officer Commanding OSD at Daru Division.

The letter does not indicate whether the police authorities have approved her resignation or responded to the concerns she raised.
