Prof. Dr Ibrahim Bangura, popularly known as DIB and one of the leading flagbearer aspirants of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), has called for increased investment in Africa’s youth through innovation, quality education, and inclusive economic growth.
He made the call on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, while delivering the keynote address at the China-Africa Youth Dialogue and Sierra Leone International Model United Nations (SIMUN) Conference 2026, held at the Tunde Cole Complex, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
Addressing participants from Sierra Leone and other African countries, Dr Bangura described young people as the continent’s greatest asset and urged governments, development partners, and the private sector to prioritise policies that empower them with the skills and opportunities needed for sustainable development.
He stressed that Africa’s future depends largely on how effectively its growing youth population is educated, equipped for innovation, and integrated into productive economic activities.
“Africa’s youth are not a burden; they are our greatest resource for sustainable development,” he said, adding that investment in human capital is essential for long-term peace, stability, and prosperity across the continent.
Dr Bangura also highlighted the importance of strengthening China-Africa cooperation in education, technology, entrepreneurship, and youth leadership, noting that such partnerships should focus on creating practical opportunities for young people rather than symbolic engagement.
The conference brought together students, diplomats, academics, policymakers, and youth leaders to discuss global governance, development cooperation, and the role of young people in shaping Africa’s future.
Prof. Dr Bangura is an economist, development specialist, peace expert, and policy advisor who has been active in national and international discussions on governance, economic transformation, and youth development.
