The European Union in Sierra Leone through UNIDO and West African Competitiveness Programme (WACOMP SL) have capacitated farmers in the Eastern Regional District, Kenema.
The capacity building was done in Suhun Community in the Kenema district where farmers and farmer support officers were trained on formation pruning and maintenance of cocoa trees respectively.
This came after their concluded meeting with the Yormata cooperative in Kono District which was also based on capacity building for the farmers in the district.
The first visit to the Sehun Community on the 9th of February 2023 was based on the plans to review the Moawoma cooperative cocoa farms which have been accessed through the farmer coaching initiative.
WACOMP SL has also completed the final accreditation assessment for the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau Management System Certification Body. The body will be in charge to certify farmers and farmer support officers to ensure good work as well as effective and efficient production in the country.
This came about as great news to many farm communities in Kenema and the few farmers trained promised to effectively use the taught skills to better their activities in the process that will meet international best standards.
