The SLPP Student Chapter at Fourah Bay College has called on its members to remain calm and allow due process to take its course as efforts continue to secure the release of Mr. Minkailu Sama, who is currently in police custody.
In a statement signed by the Chapter’s Secretary General, Tommy Cecil Gordon, the Chapter said its President has been “working tirelessly” to engage the relevant authorities and explore all lawful and appropriate avenues to ensure that Sama’s matter is handled fairly and that his release is pursued in accordance with the law.
The statement comes amid reports that Sama was arrested at the Waterloo Magistrate Court after allegedly posing as a qualified lawyer and attempting to represent a client in a bail application.
According to information from the court, the suspect had allegedly received NLe10,000 for purported legal representation. His presence and conduct at the court reportedly raised questions about his professional status, prompting further scrutiny.
During the exchange at the court, the suspect allegedly admitted to having presented himself as a lawyer for approximately five years.
Following his arrest at the court premises, he was reportedly handed over to the Sierra Leone Police and remains in custody as investigations continue.
The SLPP Student Chapter commended its President for his dedication, commitment and leadership in engaging the relevant authorities over the matter.
The Chapter also expressed appreciation to members and supporters who have offered assistance, encouragement and cooperation during the ongoing situation.
It urged members to refrain from spreading unverified information and to allow the legal process to take its course, stressing its commitment to peace, unity and respect for legal procedures.
The Chapter said it will continue to update its members as soon as verified developments become available.
“Together, let us remain united, disciplined, and hopeful,” the statement concluded.
