Sierra Leonean journalist and social media personality Glorious Aminata Bangura, popularly known as “The Gen Z Reporter,” had been lain to rest in Freetown on Monday, September 7, 2026, following an outpouring of grief from family, friends, colleagues and members of the entertainment and media communities.
Bangura’s death has attracted widespread tributes, with reports indicating that the young journalist died at Choithram Memorial Hospital. Her passing has been particularly mourned by members of Sierra Leone’s growing digital media and entertainment community, where she had established herself as a recognisable young media personality.
A candlelight procession was held in Freetown on Sunday, September 6, a day before her burial, as mourners gathered to remember and honour her life. The procession brought together people from different backgrounds who paid tribute to Bangura and expressed condolences to her family and loved ones.
Monday’s funeral and burial ceremony were attended by several prominent figures from Sierra Leone’s entertainment industry, including former Housemate Salone winner Suad and comedian Michael, alongside other friends, colleagues and sympathisers.
The tributes reflected the impact Bangura made during her life, particularly among young Sierra Leoneans who followed her work and social media presence. Her passing has left members of the media and entertainment fraternity mourning the loss of a young and promising voice.
As family, friends and colleagues bid their final farewell, prayers were offered for her soul to rest in perfect peace and for God to grant her loved ones strength and comfort as they come to terms with the loss.
