Magistrate Mark Ngegba remanded Yusif Abdulai Kamara a farmer on Wednesday after police alleged that he defrauded a US citizen, Chavonna Fraser a whopping sum of over NLe400 thousand.

Kamara, who was making his first appearance in the preliminary investigation at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court, was being prosecuted on a one count charge of fraudulent conversion.

Police said the farmer in March 2021 fraudulently converted to his own use and benefit property worth 21,200 US Dollars. The said sum is said to be worth over NLe 420,000.

The prosecutor said the money was supposed to be for purchase of a piece of land in Freetown for the Sierra Leone Ancestor Investors Association registered in California, US.

Kamara did not make a plea with his lawyers asking for a bail.

They said that their client was ready to refund the money citing that he already paid NLe 30,000 while in police custody at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The complainant informed the magistrate that she would like to get a refund of the money.

Magistrate Ngegba refused bail for Kamara and remanded him at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road until his next appearance on 13 July this year.
