In a display of admiration and respect the first Lady of the republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Fatima Jabbie Bio has publicly referred to Ambassador Eddie Sidikie Massalay, the chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in Pujehun and Ambassador to Liberia, as her political godfather.
This declaration came during her visit for the turning of the sod for the construction of the new SLPP Pujehun district party office.
During the ceremony, Madam Bio emphasized the importance of mentorship in politics, stating that every successful politician should have a guiding figure. She expressed her deep admiration for Ambassador Massalay, highlighting his unwavering dedication to the party. “Come rain or shine, I will forever support Ambassador Massalay,” she stated, praising his steadfastness in the political arena. She contrasted him with “watermelon politicians,” who may shift their loyalties based on convenience, asserting that Massalay remains focused and committed to the SLPP.
In response, Ambassador Massalay expressed his gratitude to the First Lady for recognizing his contributions. He acknowledged that everyone desires acknowledgment for their efforts, stating, “Praise is motivation.” He assured the First Lady of his continued commitment to the SLPP, affirming, “We are SLPP and die SLPP; nothing will change my loyalty to this party.”
Ambassador Massalay also took the opportunity to address the youths of the party, urging them to maintain peace and discipline during the electoral process. He cautioned against violence and chaos, reinforcing that the SLPP is a disciplined party. He warned that any member caught engaging in misconduct would face serious consequences, including suspension or expulsion from the party. “If you have grievances, there are proper channels to address them,” he advised, encouraging the youths to act as role models during this critical time.
The ceremony marks a significant step in the SLPP’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Pujehun and showcases the deep respect and camaraderie between the First Lady and Ambassador Massalay.
