A commercial tricycle (keke) rider has reportedly been detained at the Congo Cross Police Station following an altercation with a traffic police officer, with sources alleging he is expected to be charged in court by tomorrow.

The incident, which has gained widespread attention on social media, was captured in a video that shows a tense confrontation unfolding on a public street, close to Congo Cross before escalating into violence.

In the footage, the traffic officer is seen confronting a young keke rider dressed in an orange safety vest over a white hoodie. The two men exchange heated words while standing beside the rider’s yellow commercial tricycle.

The situation turns physical when the officer is seen raising his hand and forcefully slapping the rider across the face. The rider, visibly shaken and angered by the incident, is heard shouting and appealing to bystanders, repeatedly asking if they witnessed the alleged assault.

The footage has triggered a wave of condemnation online, with citizens calling out the officer’s behaviour as an abuse of power and an unacceptable use of force.

As of press time, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the incident or the circumstances surrounding the rider’s reported detention.
