A fire outbreak on Tuesday morning destroyed close to four shops along Kandeh Street in Kabala Town, Koinadugu District, causing significant property damage.
In an exclusive interview with Sierraloaded, community members said the fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday and quickly spread to nearby shops, reducing them to ashes.
Residents noted that the absence of a Sierra Leone Fire Force station in Kabala, once the country’s largest district, made it difficult to respond swiftly to the emergency.
Personnel of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), the Sierra Leone Police, and members of the local community joined efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other buildings.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and there have been no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident while affected shop owners begin assessing the extent of their losses.
