Stakeholders in Kenema has cut down a 100 years Old Cotton Tree, Following the on-going perimeter fencing of the Kenema Police Station by the outgone Mayor on Friday 7th April, 2023.

The traditional Stakeholders in conjunction with the Muslim Community of the Central Mosque in Kenema participated in a religious and traditional Ceremony to authorize the felling down of one of the oldest Cotton trees in Kenema City, which had been a barrier to the successful completion of the construction exercise as alleged by many during the occasion.

The Town Chief of Kenema, Chief Momoh Gonbulago, expressed his profound gratitude to the Stakeholders present maintaining that the Ceremony was meant to revert any possible reciprocal calamity that might tend to befall individuals, or the entire community, as a result of felling the said tree adding that, with the tree down most of the problems will be sorted respectively.

He maintained that, the tree has not been cut down due to the fact that there are many traditional rites to be observed and that with the help of the Muslim community (Holy Quran) it was made easy to fall down the tree.

The initiator and key finance source of the project (fencing of the police station) the outgone  Mayor of the Kenema Municipality, Thomas Baio, said the fencing of the police station was part of his developmental strives to make sure that the city becomes a  very clean and peaceful one among other cities in the country adding that, the Kenema Police Station was a property of the Kenema community and must have a standard that resembles the City.

The Regional Police Commander- East, Mr. Andrew Mustapha Kamara, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police,   expressed his profound appreciation over the passionate efforts of the outgone Mayor for the job in counting the police station as one of his developmental landmarks in the city.

He noted that in any democratic community, the lives and rights of Police Officers matter as well and with the fence and other added values, the security of the city is heightened and will be well-structured before, during and after the elections to ensure a very peaceful community at all times.
