The Transnational Organize Crime Unit (TOCU) of the Sierra Leone police has recently confiscated 842.9kg of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana at the back of Kerry Town in the Western Area Rural District.

According to the Assistant Superintendent of Police who also doubles as Deputy Head of Operations at TOCU, Alie Mansaray recently through intelligence they raided five farms in the said areas and seized 842.9kg of leaves suspected to be marijuana and destroyed five farms of the products.

ASP Mansaray informed that a team of Operations Support Division (OSD), TOCU, and SWART personnel including the media stormed the scene and arrested 10 suspects, destroying several farms.

The team was also able to apprehend the suspects’ farm tools including, cutlasses, knives, rubber pipes, and marijuana seeds among others.

According to ASP Mansaray, the reason TOCU decided to make such an intervention is because the substance is gradually destroying the youth population, adding that youth are using marijuana and another dangerous drug that is presently destroying young people across the country.

According to Mr. Mansaray, the purpose of the visit to the area was to destroy and nab the cannabis substance to discourage the youth that is actively involved in the production of the substance.

He called on the youths to instead focus their attention on the cultivation of cash crops for the benefit of all and sundry.
