A young boy’s life was saved in a heroic act by a military officer, Jeneba Essakui, after the 8-year-old was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle on the Grafton highway.

As per eyewitness accounts, Jeneba was driving on the same road when she came upon the scene of the accident. Without hesitation, she reversed her vehicle and, with the assistance of a bystander, raced to the boy’s aid and rushed him to Connaught Hospital.

Doctors at the Connaught Hospital quickly attended to the critically injured child who sustained a head laceration, thigh bone fracture, and had blood flowing from his nostrils. One of the attending doctors, visibly moved by the severity of the boy’s injuries, mentioned he felt “the pain of a father and a fellow human being.”

Throughout the ordeal, Jeneba remained steadfast by the boy’s side, supporting the medical team in their efforts to stabilize him. With the child’s parents unreachable due to the abrupt nature of the incident, Jeneba stood in their stead, ensuring the boy received all the necessary care.

Many in the community have hailed Jeneba as a true hero, a shining example of compassion and selflessness in an often-indifferent world.
