NPAA Demolishes Illegal Structures at Kongo Dam Water Catchment Area
Aaron Parker The National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) has commenced the demolition of illegal structures built within the Kongo Dam water catchment area in Regent, Western Area Rural District.
The enforcement exercise, carried out with support from the Sierra Leone Police, resulted in the demolition of more than six completed and uncompleted houses identified within the protected catchment zone.
According to the NPAA, the operation forms part of its continued efforts to safeguard the Western Area Peninsula’s water catchment areas from encroachment, unauthorized construction, and other activities that threaten the country’s environmental resources.
The Authority has warned against further illegal developments in protected areas, stressing that preserving water catchment zones is critical to ensuring sustainable water supply and protecting the environment for future generations.
