A family property dispute has escalated into a criminal domestic violence case, with a U.S.-based physician testifying that his stepmother’s brother tried to sell the family estate without authorisation.
Victor Williams, 62, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 to a charge of domestic violence under Section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act 2007. He was remanded until Sept. 2.
The complainant, David Ekundayo Wright, a medical doctor residing in the United States, testified that his caretaker, Alusine, called him in September 2024 to report that Williams had visited the family’s Blackhall Road property with a surveyor and others.
Williams allegedly told a tenant he was head of the Wright family and responsible for all its properties — and that he intended to sell the property.
Alusine later met Williams at Freetown City Council, where Williams produced a conveyance and other legal documents asserting authority over the estate. Following the incident, Wright said important family documents — including conveyances and court records — went missing, prompting a police report.
A second witness, local bread seller Matta Denki, testified about an encounter in which Williams and his group discussed property ownership with residents. Under cross-examination, she acknowledged she could not recall specific dates and was not present for all events described.
The matter returns to court Sept. 2. Williams is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
