A 29-year-old Freetown-based police sergeant has won NLe240,000 in Mercury International’s Daily Special draw after staking NLe100 on two tickets.

According to Mercury International, Sergeant Frederick won the prize in the Sept. 8, 2026, draw after playing the numbers 12-24-32 and matching the winning combination.

The officer said he turned to the Daily Special draw after missing the earlier Cotton Draw and decided to increase his chances by playing two tickets.

“I decided to attack the Mercury Daily Special draw with double tickets,” he said. “I was not expecting such a huge win, and I do believe it was my time.”

After tax deductions, Frederick received NLe204,314, according to Mercury International.

Despite the size of the payout, the sergeant said he does not intend to immediately change his lifestyle. Instead, he plans to invest the money in a business.

“I will continue to live the same quiet lifestyle as if I hadn’t won such an amount,” he said.

Mercury International Chief Finance Officer Ekudayo Rowe presented Frederick with the cheque and encouraged him to manage the winnings carefully.

Rowe advised the sergeant to “use the money responsibly” and invest in something worthwhile.

Frederick said the latest prize adds to his previous experience with Mercury International’s lotto, having won NLe36,000 and NLe20,000 on earlier occasions.

He described the NLe240,000 prize as a major milestone, while maintaining that he has no immediate plans to spend the money.
