Residents of Kagboro Chiefdom Appeal for Improved Roads to Boost Fishing and Tourism
Residents of Kagboro Chiefdom in Moyamba District are urging the Sierra Leone government to urgently improve the deplorable road network linking their communities, stressing that it is crippling livelihoods and undermining the area’s economic potential.
The chiefdom, renowned for its rich fishing grounds and scenic beaches, is struggling as poor road conditions make it difficult for fishermen to transport their catches to markets.
Community members say the challenge has led to wasted harvests, reduced income, and a growing scarcity of fish in local markets.
“We are calling on the government to recognize our plight and invest in our roads,” a fisherman appealed, noting that efficient transportation would transform both fishing and trade in the area.
Local leaders also believe that improved roads would open doors for tourism, allowing Kagboro to harness its natural beauty for wider economic growth.
Residents remain hopeful that the government will act swiftly to address their concerns, ensuring better opportunities for the fishing industry and long-term development in the chiefdom.
Indeed, the road network in Kagboro Chiefdom remains one of the biggest challenges holding back our people. Apart from fishing and tourism, Kagboro also has very fertile soil with great potential for agriculture. Sadly, due to the poor road conditions, our farmers face the same struggles as our fishermen — produce gets wasted, markets become inaccessible, and our people continue to suffer. We urgently appeal to government and development partners to prioritize our roads for the sake of fishing, farming, and tourism, which are the lifelines of Kagboro’s economy. 🙏🚜🎣🌴
