In a recent video release, Samuel Wise Bangura, the former presenter of African Young Voices (AYV) Television, opened up about his life post-departure from the prominent television station amid controversy and challenges.

Bangura made headlines when he left AYV in September, amidst an investigation into a money-doubling scandal. The saga unfolded on August 8, 2023, when Bangura reported a robbery, claiming a loss of $7,000, an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and other valuable items. However, conflicting reports from social media and various sources raised suspicions about Bangura’s involvement in dubious activities, with a circulating video allegedly depicting him participating in illicit money-doubling schemes.

President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, weighed in on the matter, stating that Bangura, when confronted, denied the implications of the video. Bangura asserted that he was conducting an investigation into money-doubling.

AYV, following its investigation, clarified that Bangura and his colleague featured in the video were acting in a private capacity, not as AYV staff members. The media company emphasized that their actions were not endorsed by AYV and were in violation of the station’s Editorial Policy on Investigative Journalism and Conflict of Interest, contrary to the AYV’s Public Engagement, Coverage, and Production (CAP) Policy.

Three months after the scandal unfolded, Bangura released a video addressing the concerns surrounding his life. In the video, he shared four key principles he employs when navigating challenging times.

He emphasized that bad days are just a chapter in one’s life story and not the entirety of it. Additionally, he advised focusing on things within one’s control and letting go of those that cannot be controlled. Bangura stressed the importance of seeking help without shame, stating that everyone should feel comfortable asking for assistance.
