A 24-year-old student was brought before Magistrate Peter Brima Gogra of Pademba Road Court No. 6 in Freetown for stealing $3000 from Mabinty Sesay.

Aminata Tucker, a 24-year-old student was charged with one count of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. The theft happened on December 23,  2023, in Lakka Village, Peninsular, in the western rural area of Freetown. Tucker was charged with stealing $3,000, equal to 72,000 Leones.

In her first court appearance, Tucker pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Marie Sesay, presented five witnesses, including the factual witness who detailed the events of the theft. The accused also had the opportunity to present her defense.

W.C. Oluba Esq, the counsel representing Tucker, made a plea for mitigation on her behalf before sentencing.

Taking the plea into account, Magistrate Gogra sentenced Tucker to 18 months

imprisonment, including the time she had already spent in custody. The stolen money was ordered to be returned to its rightful owner, Mabinty Sesay.
