Two Men Sent to Prison Over $10,700 Vehicle Scam in Freetown
Ben Bassey Magistrate John Manso Fornah has reportedly remanded two men in Freetown accused of defrauding a local resident of $10,700 in a fake vehicle sale scheme.
Mohamed Musa, 64, and Yankuba Koroma, 27, appeared before Magistrate Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on charges of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences. Neither defendant entered a plea, as the case is proceeding by way of committal.
Prosecutors allege the pair conspired between March 4 and April 16, 2026, to defraud Mohamed Koroma by falsely claiming they had a white AME-Coupe vehicle for sale in Conakry, Guinea. A second count alleges they obtained $10,700 from the complainant by pretending the vehicle existed when they knew the claim was false.
Prosecutor Sergeant Florence Wilson confirmed to the court that the defendants had received copies of the police case file.
Magistrate Fornah, who has handled numerous fraud cases at Pademba Road Court No. 2, denied bail citing the seriousness of the charges. The case has been adjourned to September 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
