The administration of the Central University has welcomed over 200 students in a matriculation ceremony held on Saturday 28th January, 2023, at campus in Mile 91, Northern Region of Sierra Leone.

Gibril Africanus Sesay, the Director of Quality Assurance at the university and also Chairman of the occasion, featured 2022 as a historic year, as it was the year in which they gained a university status.

He assured the students that, they have made the best choice in choosing the university, as they are sure to academic excellence.

He admonished parents to advise their children to abstain from all illegal students groups on campus, adding that, the University is known for its uniqueness and quality standards in ensuring that the 21st century standards of learning are met. He added that the University has no room for any cult practices.

The Registrar of the University, Maligi Sesay, congratulated the students upon fulfilling the very first requirement of being actual students of the university and spoke of the progress an successes gained by the university, since its gained university status.

In his address, Professor Bob Karakay Conteh, Vice Chancellor of Central University said that the ceremony was to admit new students and for them to sign the University Register so that they can become a bonafide members of the University.

He noted that it is challenging to keep students in the university, considering the current economic status of the country.

He assured that the university will do everything humanly possible to give the students the very best in their academic pursuits.

“Today you are going to sign the University Register and you will be given a university number which will be unique and that number will be as evidence to showcase that you are a student of Central University,” Prof. Conteh said.

Mohamed Chernoh Kamara, President of the Central University Students’ Union Government, disclosed that ten (10) different student groups are legally registered with his government and urged that the new students to be very mindful of the groups they associate themselves with as Cultism is not in any way accepted in the university.

The occasion was climaxed by the signing of the university register by the new students to assure their legality at the university.
